As with many worthwhile pursuits, this one began unexpectedly — with a cracked crystal and the simple question: how hard could it be to fix it myself?
What followed was a deep and lasting interest in mechanical watches and the craft required to restore them properly. Over the years I’ve assembled a dedicated bench with traditional watchmaking tools, microscopes, and proper cleaning equipment, and developed the skills necessary to return vintage watches to reliable working condition.
Second Setting Watch Works exists to give these watches another life. Each piece is carefully evaluated, sympathetically restored where appropriate, and preserved with respect for its originality and history. I don’t limit the bench to “premium brands” — every vintage watch is welcomed to the bench with the same diagnostic excitement, regardless of its branding. The goal is never to make a watch something it isn’t, but to help it become what it was meant to be — a dependable, honest mechanical companion.
This is intentionally a small, independent endeavor. I work on each watch myself, and some of the watches I restore are offered for sale — not as planned inventory, but as individual pieces ready to be worn and appreciated again. After all, I only have two wrists.
Second Setting Watch Works reflects a simple belief: well-made mechanical watches deserve the chance to keep running.
Second Setting Watch Works is based out of Washington State, within reach of Mt. Rainier.
